One of America’s premiere concert and theater organists, Walt Strony has performed at most Plaza Classic Film Festivals, having accompanied Safety Last, The Thief of Baghdad, The General, The Phantom of the Opera, The Mark of Zorro, Sherlock Holmes, The Kid Brother, Speedy, Steamboat Bill Jr. and The Cameraman at previous Plaza Classics.
A protege of organist Al Melgard, Walt made his public performing debut at age 18. He has performed with films and symphony orchestras all over the world, and is frequently featured at conventions of the American Guild of Organists and the American Theatre Organ Society, which twice voted him its Organist of the Year and inducted him into its hall of fame in 2011.
Walt Strony will accompany the 1927 Clara Bow silent classic It at 4 pm Sunday, July 19 and Buster Keaton’s The General (100th anniversary) at 12:30 pm Thursday, July 23 in the Plaza Theatre. He also will perform before several features in the Plaza Theatre.
