One of America’s premiere concert and theater organists, Walter Strony has performed at ten Plaza Classic Film Festivals, having accompanied Safety Last, The Thief of Baghdad, The General, The Phantom of the Opera, The Mark of Zorro, Sherlock Holmes, The Kid Brother, and The Cameraman at previous Plaza Classics.
A protege of organist Al Melgard, Walt made his public performing debut at age 18. He has performed with films and symphony orchestras all over the world, and is frequently featured at conventions of the American Guild of Organists and the American Theatre Organ Society, which twice voted him its Organist of the Year and inducted him into its hall of fame in 2011.
Walt Strony will accompany Buster Keaton’s Steamboat Bill Jr. at 3:30 pm Saturday, July 22 in the Plaza Theatre. He also will accompany two Keaton silent shorts, One Week and The Boat, as part of the free Plaza Days program at 11 am Friday, July 21, and will perform before several movies during this year’s Plaza Classic Film Festival.
