Allen Gilmer

Allen Gilmer first got involved in the film industry in 2015 when he helped finance a documentary that won the SXSW Audience Favorite Award. He and wife Riki Rushing then helped director-producer Tara Wood finish QT8 – The First Eight, a documentary covering Quentin Tarantino’s first films.

Allen and Riki are executive producers for Long Shadows, an American period piece, directed by William Shockley for Tiki Tāne Pictures, starring Dermot Mulroney, Jacqueline Bisset and Dominic Monaghan. They also executive produced The Assessment, starring Alicia Vikander, which world premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2024 and sold to Amazon.

The first feature film they produced was Death in Texas, which was shot in El Paso and Las Cruces. They added distribution to their repertoire with their next feature Frank & Penelope, the directorial debut of Sean Patrick Flannery, which reconnected them with William Shockley and met producer-director Tom Brady, and many of the Tiki Tāne Pictures team. Allen and Riki helped produce Castro’s Daughter and produced the follow-up documentary, tentatively titled Revolution’s Daughter.

Prior to his film career, Allen cofounded and spent 20 years as CEO and Chairman of the Board of what became the world’s largest software as a service (SaaS) business in energy. He grew up in El Paso, Texas, is a UTEP graduate, and has called Texas, New Mexico, or Mexico home for most of his life.

Allen Gilmer will appear with Long Shadows at 7 pm Saturday, July 26 in the Plaza Theatre.
