The Plaza Classic celebrates the centennial of silent movie icon Harold Lloyd’s most celebrated film. Lloyd plays an eager, but awkward college newcomer who dreams of becoming the most popular student on campus. In his quest for acceptance, he throws himself headfirst into school life, often with hilariously disastrous results. His sincerity and charm eventually win over his classmates, culminating in a climactic football game that cements his place in campus lore. Lloyd’s frequent leading lady, Jobyna Ralston, plays the innocent young coed who supports his mission for success. Though mostly remembered as a lighthearted comedy, the film is significant to history as the first true sports film, making the way for an entire genre of beloved movies. It will feature live accompaniment by PCFF regular Walt Strony on the Plaza Theatre’s Wyler Mighty Wurlitzer Pipe Organ. — Jack Fields
