Comedy legend Mel Brooks delivers a hilarious sci-fi spoof in Spaceballs, parodying iconic franchises like Star Wars, Star Trek, and Alien. The story follows Lone Starr (Pullman) and his loyal, half-man, half-dog companion Barf (Candy) as they race to rescue Princess Vespa (Zuniga) from the clutches of the evil Dark Helmet (Moranis) and the scheming President Skroob (Brooks), who aims to steal their planet’s clean air. With George Lucas’s blessing — granted under the condition that no merchandise be produced — the film famously pokes fun at itself through the classic “merchandising” gag. Brooks also plays Yogurt, a wise mentor spoofing Star Wars’ Yoda. Though a modest box office performer, Spaceballs has since become a beloved cult classic. It recently was reported that plans are underway for a sequel in 2027. — Jaime Mendez
