We’ve watched El Paso filmmaker Diego Muñoz Holguin’s work grow over the last several years. Diego is an educator, and a gifted writer and director whose heartfelt work draws inspiration from family and music. This program of short films by the writer-director includes the premiere of his new film, Black Magic (11 minutes), about the life of blues guitarist Samuel Gene “Magic Sam” Maghett. Other films in the program are A River Runs on Cliff Street (2022, 15 minutes), Oldies (2023, 5 minutes), Aria (2023, 3 minutes), Baila (2023, 4 minutes), When Life Gives You Lemons (2023, 4 minutes), Vote for Your Voice (2024, 2 minutes), and I Did the Wrong Thing (2024, 3 minutes), featured in last year’s Local Flavor Showcase. A Q&A with moderator Diego Carlos will follow the films. If you want to see what kind of talent is bubbling up here, check it out. — Doug Pullen
