It’s 2071. A lunar disaster has forced humans to abandon Earth for other planets, including Mars, where a delusional terrorist releases a deadly virus to kill everyone. It’s up to the bounty hunters on the good ship Cowboy Bebop to stop him and find the vaccine, which they spread by manipulating the weather and employing old crop duster pilots to scatter it around. Cowboy Bebop: The Movie is not only based on the popular 1998 Japanese anime series (which aired in the U.S. on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim), its story takes place between episodes 22 and 23, and was created the team behind the series, including director Schinichirō Watanabe, writer Keiko Nobumoto, animation director Toshihiro Kawamoto, and composer Yoko Kanno. — Doug Pullen
