Alan K. Rode (pronounced Roe-Dee) is a film scholar, preservationist, cinema host, and producer. His books include Charles McGraw: Film Noir Tough Guy, Michael Curtiz: A Life in Film, and Blood on the Moon: The Birth of the Noir Western. He is the producer and host of the annual Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival in Palm Springs, CA, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2024. Alan is also a charter director and the treasurer of the Film Noir Foundation (filmnoirfoundation.org), and co-host of the Noir City Hollywood and Chicago film festivals.
In addition to his filmed discussions with golden era Hollywood artists available via his web site, alankrode.com, and YouTube channel, Alan recorded commentary tracks for 45 different films released on DVD and blu-ray. He has produced or appeared in more than 50 documentaries and special features and was a Spotlight co-host on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) in 2018.
Alan K. Rode helped select this year’s Classic Noir thread and will introduce several of those titles, as well as doing the Film Lecture on Sunset Boulevard at 6 pm Thursday, July 25.
