When El Paso Water starts looking toward a Dell City aquifer for a new source of water for the growing metropolis, a scramble ensues among farmers, ranchers (including late Dixie Chicks co-founder Laura Lynch, who associate produced) and the local water board over the “Valley of Hidden Waters’” lucrative water rights. Austin-based director Mario Mattei (Netflix’s The Gentleman Driver) takes a journalistic approach to recreating this turn-of-the-21st century struggle, interviewing stakeholders on various sides of the battle, which ended in a Texas Supreme Court decision. If you don’t know the story, you may deduce who prevailed by who produced it, but Mattei creates a compelling mystery in the process. It won the Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Dallas International Film Festival. A Q&A with producer Philip Guitar and others will follow the screening. — Doug Pullen
