PCFF regular Zach Passero and wife Hannah spent nine years on this hand-drawn labor of love, an indie animated horror comedy classic in the making. Since its triumphant debut at the Plaza Theatre in 2023, it screened at key festivals, including France’s Annecy, London’s Frightfest, and the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival, where it won the audience award. Think of its Plaza Classic debut as a victory lap for the filmmakers, who previewed portions of it at past PCFFs. Their knowing, crude, subversive humor and jerky animation make Beavis and Butthead look like child’s play. It centers on a group of teenagers hellbent on having adult-free fun in the desert (as anyone who grew up here can relate). It all goes wrong, of course, as their adventure is riddled by teen angst, hormones on overdrive, and a sobering confrontation that will change their priorities — if it doesn’t kill them. — Doug Pullen
