Mikey (Sean Astin) and Brand (Josh Brolin), brothers living in the fictional Oregon town of Goon Docks, are days away from losing their family home to a future golf course. But Mikey’s youthful determination to save their neighborhood leads him and “The Goonies,” his oddball group of friends (among them, Corey Feldman and Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan), to look for a pirate’s long-lost treasure using an ancient map. In this deviation of sorts by director Richard Donner (Superman, Lethal Weapon), the allure of gold and jewels attracts a dangerous trio known as the Fratelli family, who will stop at nothing to thwart the Goonies. The group of misfits is forced to work together and trust each other in to survive, because, in the end, “Goonies never say die.” As this fun film’s enduring popularity will attest. — Stephanie Valle
