Often called the greatest concert film ever made, Stop Making Sense is the result of director Demme filming the Talking Heads for three nights from their Speaking in Tongues tour at a Hollywood theater in late 1983. Featuring a large band cast, including original members Tina Weymouth, David Byrne, Jerry Harrison, and Chris Frantz, the film rockets through an arc of ever more frenzied and energetic New Wave classics, such as Psycho Killer, Burning Down the House, Take Me to the River, Life During Wartime, Girlfriend is Better, and many more. Moody, shadowed, athletic, inspired — the adjectives pile up. If you’ve never seen this film, or have only seen it on small screens, you owe it to yourself to experience it bigger-than-life. Dancing in the aisles allowed. — Craig Holden
