In a dystopian Detroit of the future, a police officer is violently ambushed. Peter Weller (The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, Shoot the Moon, Shakedown) plays officer Alex Murphy, who is revived and brought back as a cyborg developed by an ambitious junior executive (Miguel Ferrer). The ultimate plan: replace human police with machines to combat rising violent crime. Originally rated X for violence, the rating was downgraded to an R after scenes of gruesome violence were edited. Critics consider RoboCop one of the top action and sci-fi movies ever made. Director Paul Verhoeven (Showgirls, Basic Instinct, Starship Troopers) and writers Edward Neumier and Michael Miner created a fictional world in the late ‘80s that is eerily representative in some parts today.
