Terry Malloy (Marlon Brando) is an ex-prize fighter who becomes entangled in the corrupt workings of the longshoremen’s union and its boss, Johnny Friendly. His boxing career over, Terry is forced to work as a longshoreman and is coerced into luring a fellow longshoreman onto a roof for a “talk.” As Terry develops a relationship with the murdered man’s sister, he is under increasing pressure to remain loyal to the union bosses. After witnessing an “accident” that killed a fellow longshoreman, Terry begins to see the corruption of the union bossesy.
