The 80th anniversary of one of the ultimate film noirs is being celebrated this year at the Plaza Classic. Dana Andrews is Lt. Mark McPherson, a detective hired to investigate the murder of the beautiful Laura Hunt (Gene Tierney in her most famous role). As Mark interviews the various suspects, we are shown over a series of flashbacks that the mysterious Laura made all who knew her fall in love with her. Even in death she has influence over them and increasingly over Mark himself. But then, who would want to kill her? The film also generated the title song, which has since become a jazz standard. — Jack Fields
