Baseball was never more sexy than in this classic ‘80s romantic comedy by writer-director Ron Shelton, whose insightful script is informed by his own minor league baseball tenure. Susan Sarandon is Annie, a local groupie of the Durham Bulls minor league baseball team, who takes it upon herself to have an affair with one player every season with the intentions of sending him on to a successful career in the major leagues. She has two final candidates this season: erratic young fast-balling pitcher Nuke (Tim Robbins) and stoic veteran catcher Crash (Kevin Costner). However, Crash is the first player ever to turn Annie down. Let the tensions begin. Because of his previous experience in baseball, Costner beat out original choice Kurt Russell for the lead.
