Bastian (Barret Oliver) is mourning his mother and misunderstood by his father (Gerald McRaney) and his classmates. His escape from bullies into an old bookshop leads to a different kind of adventure. Bastian “borrows” a book, The NeverEnding Story, from the shop owner, hides in the attic of his school, and spends the day reading about the land of Fantasia, its childlike empress, Atreyu the boy warrior and his horse Artax, Falcor the Luck Dragon, and others who all have the same mission: to save their world. The late Wolfgang Petersen directed the fantasy that will leave many pondering the importance of nurturing our imaginations. — Stephanie Valle
