Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) directed this box-office smash from a screenplay by Randi Mayem Singer and Leslie Dixon (Overboard, Look Who’s Talking Too). Robin Williams (Good Morning Vietnam, Good Will Hunting) plays Daniel Hillard, a freelance voice actor who is divorced from wife Miranda, played by Sally Field (Norma Rae, Lincoln), who considers him unreliable. To be closer to their three kids, he dresses up as a British nanny named Euphegenia Doubtfire. Ironically, his alter ego becomes the opposite of what caused his marital dysfunction. Chaos and hilarity ensue when he tries to disrupt the growing relationship between Miranda and an old high school classmate (Pierce Brosnan) with a little help from the kids. It took Williams, who also produced, four hours to get into his prosthetics and costume. Mrs. Doubtfire won the 1994 Academy Awards for Best Makeup. — Jaime Mendez
