Who knew that the International Man of Mystery comes from a dysfunctional family? It makes strange, side-splitting sense in the third installment of the Austin Powers ‘60s spy spoof franchise. The ever-swaggering Austin (played by creator Mike Myers, one of his four roles in the movie) travels back in time to the discofied ‘70s to team up with Foxy Cleopatra (Beyonce Knowles). They confront the double-jointed Goldmember (Myers), who is in cahoots with Dr. Evil (Myers again) on a plan to hold the earth hostage for ransom. Our horny hero doesn’t count on rescuing his oft-MIA spy dad (Michael Caine) or learning the true identity of Dr. Evil. The jokes and pop culture references come fast and furious, as usual, and bad taste is proudly and sometimes uproariously on display in a comedy that is funnier now than it was 20 years ago. — Doug Pullen
