The italian job

This Brexit of comedy crime capers pits an unlikely alliance of British cons against Continental forces, including the Italian mob, in a scheme to steal a shipment of gold from a Fiat plant in Turin. Driving a fleet of British Mini-Coopers as their getaway cars, they plan to escape by disrupting the city’s elaborate computer-controlled traffic system and creating a massive gridlock. Michael Caine, as the recently paroled mastermind Charlie, teams up with two fellow countrymen: Mr. Bridger, an imprisoned crime boss (Noel Coward), and the nebbishy Professor Peach (Benny Hill). The film builds on a theme of us against them, Britain vs. Europe, culminating in a daredevil climax. A remake in 2003, with Mark Wahlberg, Donald Sutherland and Edward Norton, didn’t quite match the original’s flair.

Tickets are on sale at the Plaza Theatre Box Office and Ticketmaster.com (service charges apply.)
