The 13th annual edition (it started before the Plaza Classic Film Festival did) features 15 new shorts by area filmmakers from both sides of the border. This year’s group: documentaries (Mac Snodgrass’ Hal Marcus Art and Life, Luis Gamboa’s Art as a weapon, and Holly Packer Cobb and David Guerin’s Tom Lea Institute-produced Manny Rivas’ Peleliu); surprising comedies (KFOX anchor Robert Holguin’s TV news personality-filled Kompadres and Andrew Barahona’s cerebral My Lost Cat); silly comedies (Larry D. Powers’ A Day in the Life of An Egg); dramas (Jon-Carlo Diaz’s Are You There); horror (Tito Arenal’s zombified Nightwalkers and Gamboa’s Night Shift); experimental dramas (Oscar Moreno’s Game Over, Juan Jose Vargas’ Timer and Julian Alexander’s What Else); music videos (Orlando Martos’ Whiskey in a Glass, featuring the Hard Road Trio, and Sherwin Lau’s Let’s Pretend, featuring Sorrytown); and a commercial (Angel Rodriguez’s promotional video Vintage Views: Better Life).
