How did a Sesame Street movie find its way into our 1969 theme? The game-changing Children’s Television Workshop program debuted that year on public TV. Sixteen years later, principals Jim Henson and Frank Oz took it to the big screen for the first time. Follow That Bird is clever, fun, cute and educational, the story of a zealous social worker’s attempt (the Street always kept it real) to place “stray” Big Bird with a family of dodos in the Midwest. Comic misadventures (and some sweet songs) follow as Bird tries to find his way back home to Sesame Street. All the Sesame Street principals and puppeteers from its heyday are here, and there are play-along-with-it cameos from the likes of country superstar Waylon Jennings; SCTV’s Joe Flaherty, Dave Thomas and John Candy; and Chevy Chase. A real treat for the little ones.
