An Elvis-like rooster named Chanticleer (voiced by Glen Campbell) raises the sun each morning with his powerful crowing. But when he leaves to pursue a singing career, the farm is thrown into darkness and flooding and is overtaken by the evil Grand Duke of Owls (Christopher Plummer). A heroic young boy-turned-cat leads the effort to bring Chanticleer back. Rock-a-Doodle was the first in a string of ’90s box-office disappointments for Ireland-based Sullivan Bluth Studios. It was Don Bluth’s first film to use live action, albeit briefly, since his days at Disney.
