Plaza Classic favorite Walt Strony gets things started by accompanying three silent short classics on the newly expanded Wyler Mighty Wurlitzer Pipe Organ. More than 3,000 cream pies were used in Laurel and Hardy’s recently restored pie-fighting romp Battle of the Century (1927, 17 minutes). We kick off One Giant Leap, our thread of space exploration films, with what may be the very first one, French film pioneer Georges Méliès’ fantastical A Trip to the Moon (1902, 15 minutes). And for the second straight year, Strony will accompany a short by overlooked silent comedy star Charley Chase with Crazy Like a Fox (1926, 25 minutes). Strony also will accompany the inspirational 1927 Cecil B. DeMille classic The King of Kings at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, in the Plaza Theatre’s Kendle Kidd Performance Hall.
