One of the great stage musicals became one of the great film musicals when Warner Bros. brought this Broadway smash to the screen. Rex Harrison reprised his stage role (and won an Oscar) as Henry Higgins in the story based on the classic play Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw. A professor of phonetics, Higgins takes it upon himself to groom the impoverished flower girl Eliza Doolittle (Audrey Hepburn) and turn her into an ultrasophisticated lady. Ever loverly, Audrey Hepburn gives one of her best-remembered performances as Eliza (even though almost all of her singing was dubbed by Marni Nixon). Filled with Broadway standards like I Could Have Danced All Night and On the Street Where You Live, the film won eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
