The first installment of our annual local film/filmmaker showcase opens with Pozole, a Cinequest-winning, Academy Award-qualifying comedy from producer Jenn Garcia, a New Mexico State University grad, and director Jessica Mendez Siqueiros. It’s about a young Latina who doesn’t speak Spanish and doesn’t follow her cultural traditions. It will be followed by another Garcia production, Daytrip, based on a spoken word piece. Dakota Thomas’ One Last Scare evokes ‘80s horror films. Precognition is a thriller from producer Jonathan Gonzales (winner of last year’s first Audience Flavorite Local Flavor Award) and director Jesse Fraire. Skyler Carreon’s comedy Barksky & Muttch sends up a certain TV show and genre, with animals and puppets! Carlos H. Tejeda’s Until Death Tear Us Apart is a psychological thriller about a man haunted by an abusive relationship.
