Fred Astaire returned from a short-lived retirement for a chance to work with fellow musical genius Judy Garland in this charming musical romance. Astaire plays Don, a New York City hoofer dumped by his longtime dancing partner and love interest (Ann Miller in her star-making performance). Don plucks chorus girl Hannah (Garland) out of obscurity to prove that he can be a dancing star with anybody. Of course, falling in love with Hannah isn’t supposed to be part of the plan. The film features a score of 17 classic songs by the legendary Irving Berlin and some of the most iconic production numbers of any of the MGM musicals.
