Mark Medoff wrote the screenplay for this emotional story, based on Joseph Olshan’s novel, of a family splintered by the death of its infant daughter. Kathleen Quinlan plays Leona, the devastated mother who seeks peace in a trip to Jamaica. There, she meets the no-nonsense Clara (Whoopi Goldberg) and persuades her to come to Baltimore to help son David (12-year-old Ruidoso native Neil Patrick Harris in his movie debut) overcome his grief and anger over his baby sister’s death and his parents’ broken marriage. Robert Mulligan (To Kill a Mockingbird) directed. Kathleen Quinlan will appear with the movie to discuss it as part of our tribute to the late Mark Medoff.
