Many of Don Bluth and Gary Goldman’s animated movies spawned sequels and television series, but they directed only one of them. Bartok the Magnificent was a direct-to-video spinoff of, and prequel to, the company’s hugely successful Anastasia. Lighter in tone and clearly aimed at younger children, it focuses on the scene-stealing white albino bat (voiced by Hank Azaria) from Anastasia. He’s a con man (con bat?) compelled to save a kidnapped Russian prince from the evil Ludmilla (Catherine O’Hara). El Paso animators Shawn and Vikki Gibson worked on this.
