A troll named Stanley (voiced by Dom DeLuise, a regular for directors Don Bluth and Gary Goldman) has a green thumb, which is seen as an embarrassment by the nasty Queen Gnorga (a campy Cloris Leachman), who banishes him to New York’s Central Park. He befriends two small children and, since he’s happy, incurs the queen’s wrath. She attacks him with a tornado and kidnaps the little girl, and he must make things right. This is Bluth and Goldman’s least successful movie, grossing less than $100,000 upon its release fully two years after its completion and with negligible promotional support from Warner Bros. It has a cuddly cuteness that should appeal to younger children.
