Indigenous New Mexican composer Raven Chacon and visual artist Cristobal Martinez created A Song Often Played on the Radio for Soundings: An Exhibition in Five Parts, an interdisciplinary traveling exhibition curated by the Agnes Etherington Art Centre in Kingston, Ontario. They describe A Song as “an allegory without time” with characters representing the indigenous mestizos of northern New Mexico. It’s a complex look at the borderlands and its history. The filmmakers call it “a critique of America’s national sites of sacrifice. The people will never forget the desecration of their lands and bodies resulting from the dark forces of atomic optimism and the resource extraction that started with gold and silver.”
