This one-of-a-kind display is all about space. A Galaxy of Wonders packs more than 40 items into one 300-square foot space. The exhibition includes gear from various Apollo missions, a reproduction space suit (and swatches of real ones), meteorites from the moon and Mars, commemorative medals from the personal collection of Apollo 11 command module pilot Michael Collins and a display on today’s commercial space race, much of which is heating up nearby in Truth or Consequences, N.M., and Van Horn, Texas.

There’s even an array of portable, nutrient-dense, high-calorie foods made especially for astronauts, including candy coated chocolates and Russian space food from the International Space Station (Flight Director Ginger Kerrick is from El Paso).

This cosmic collection is on loan from the New Mexico Museum of Space History in Alamogordo. A Galaxy of Wonders is housed in the New Mexico Cultural Affairs Department’s Wonders on Wheels Mobile Museum, a 38-foot RV making a rare appearance outside of its home state.

The WoW museum will be parked in the Arts Festival Plaza, between the Plaza Theatre and El Paso Museum of Art, on August 9-10.
