Three years after striking it big with Don Bluth and Gary Goldman’s Anastasia, Fox Animation Studios was on its last legs when the pair reluctantly agreed to take on their first sci-fi movie. It had been in development as a live action film with a screenplay contribution from Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Avengers). Fox Animation shut down 10 days after its release. Titan A.E. has become a cult classic. The directors, known for championing traditional hand-drawn animation, leaned heavily on CGI in this futuristic story about young Cale Tucker (voiced by Matt Damon), who must find the Titan spaceship to save humanity from destruction by an enemy species.
